What Happens At Your First Orthodontist Appointment?

So you’re preparing for your first orthodontic appointment ever— how exciting! You’re about to embark on a life-changing journey.

But first, you may be wondering “what happens at your first orthodontic appointment?”

We’re here to break it all down – no surprises or unexpected plot twists. We want you to feel comfortable and prepared for your complimentary consultation so you can enjoy it to the fullest extent.

Here’s 3 things to expect at your first orthodontic exam.

1. Dr. Matsumoto will examine your current smile!

When you first visit Matsumoto Orthodontics & Periodontics, Dr. Matsumoto will be your orthodontist. You’ll meet him and get to know a little bit about each other!

Dr. Matsumoto will perform a visual exam of your smile, then take some diagnostic x-rays and photos to gain the full picture of your teeth, gums and jaw bones.

Next up is your digital scanning! We’ll use our iTero digital scanner to take accurate and precise digital impressions of your mouth, without the discomfort and messiness of traditional impressions.

Dr. Matsumoto will use all of this information, from your visual exam, x-rays and digital scanning, to create your personalized treatment plan!

2. You’ll choose a treatment!

At your orthodontic exam, we’ll help you explore your treatment options so you can choose the best one for you. Dr. Matsumoto will discuss the pros and cons of braces, Brius, Invisalign, and/or any orthodontic appliances that may help you achieve your ideal smile.

After Dr. Matsumoto examines your smile, he will determine whether a full treatment of braces, brius, or Invisalign is best for your case, or if an appliance would be more efficient first.

The best treatment option for you will depend on a few factors, including your specific condition, the severity of your condition, your age, and of course, your preferences. We’ll listen to your concerns and talk about your lifestyle to help you decide between braces, Brius, or Invisalign.

If you’re interested in braces, we offer three different kinds! Choose from metal self-ligating braces, ceramic self-ligating braces, or Brius invisible braces

3. We’ll create a payment plan that suits your needs.

We’ll talk about finances too. Before you start treatment, you’ll sit down with one of our team members to discuss the cost of treatment. We’ll present our financial options to you and discuss our 0%-interest in-house financing options, as well as outside financing with LendingPoint

The cost of your treatment will depend on a few things, including the length of your treatment plan and the type of treatment required. From here, we’ll also calculate your orthodontic benefits if you have dental insurance! We’re proud to accept most insurances and our team is happy to submit your insurance claims for you, so you can receive the maximum benefit.

You’ll hear all of this again at your orthodontic exam too, of course.

We aim to make every orthodontic appointment a great experience, from your first visit— to your last. You will always be greeted with smiles and friendly faces!
