So can I straighten my teeth without braces?

Braces are everyone’s first thought when you think of “teeth straightening” or “orthodontic treatment”. While we do offer advanced braces options for your smile transformation, these may not fit your busy lifestyle, especially if you’re faced with a tight wedding timeline. The average braces treatment length is about 18 to 24 months and not everyone is comfortable sporting braces in their wedding photos, we get it!

But good news! Dr. Matsumoto offers a few discreet alternative treatments for straightening your teeth quickly.

How do I hide my wedding braces?

It’s simple! Just choose an invisible braces option like Brius® truly-invisible braces or Invisalign® clear aligners for your smile journey!

Option 1: Brius truly-invisible braces

One of the reasons brides and grooms say no to braces treatment is that they’re hard to hide and aren’t a fan of the full-mouth appearance of them. Our team understands! You should feel comfortable and confident throughout treatment (especially on your big day).

We offer Brius for those who’d like a fixed option without the look of traditional braces. Brius braces work behind the scenes (aka behind your teeth) gently guiding your teeth into healthy alignment with a custom-made wire and arm system. They’re difficult to see when you smile because the entire system sits on the backs of your teeth.

Option 2: Invisalign clear aligners

Invisalign® treatment is an incredibly popular choice among brides and grooms for their teeth straightening needs. A series of clear, custom-made trays will apply gentle and consistent force on your teeth, encouraging them to move into healthy alignment. You’ll wear your Invisalign for 20 to 22 hours a day and move onto the next series of aligners every week.

Here’s why many bride and grooms choose Invisalign to get their picture-perfect smile:

  • No food restrictions. You can try all the catering and cake samples as you plan out your magical day with your soon-to-be-life-partner! Just simply remove your aligners before eating or drinking anything besides water and brush your teeth before popping them back in.
  • Practically invisible. Invisalign aligners are clear, allowing your budding new smile to shine through without the distraction of brackets and wires.
  • Easy to care for. Unlike braces, Invisalign aligners are removable and allow you to brush and floss as normal. This also means that you’ll be able to focus more of your budget on your wedding than purchasing specialty oral care products to keep your teeth and braces clean.
  • Less check-in appointments. With Invisalign, Dr. Matsumoto checks in on your smile progress every 12 weeks or so as opposed to adjustments about every 8 weeks with braces. Which is great for your busy wedding planning schedule!
  • You’ll see noticeable results by wedding season! With each custom-made tray, you’ll start seeing your smile transform little by little. Many Invisalign patients even start seeing results within the first 6 weeks!

Can I take Invisalign out for a wedding?

While it’s tempting to remove your aligners for your wedding or skip wearing it all together for your big day, it’s important to stick to your prescribed wear time.

And like we mentioned before, Invisalign aligners are practically-invisible so it’s difficult to tell if you’re wearing an orthodontic appliance. If you’re worried about your aligners showing in photos, it’s ok to take them out for your wedding close-ups. Just log that time in your Invisalign app so you can keep track of your Invisalign wear for that day.

Can you see Invisalign attachments in pictures? Invisalign attachments may be visible if you take close-ups of your wedding makeup or hairstyle. But this is an easy fix! Simply inform your photographer that you have Invisalign attachments, and with some photo-editing they can easily remove them from your final pictures.

What about whitening my teeth before my wedding?

Yes, you can whiten your teeth before your wedding! No matter if you’re in the middle of Invisalign or Brius treatment, you can safely whiten your teeth with us.

Dr. Matsumoto uses a professional in-office whitening treatment by GLO. In just two 8 minute sessions, you’ll be lighting up the room with your smile and just in time for your upcoming nuptials!
